I always use

dd-MMM-yyyy hh:nn:ss

where MMM is an uppercase 3-letter-abbreviation of English month names
(JAN, FEB, MAR, APR, MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV, DEC). dd, hh,
nn, ss with leading zeros, always 24-hour format.

Now it would be 03-APR-2006 12:09:27

That always worked, I didn't have any problems so far, starting with
InterBase 4.0.
