Hoi Ruaan,
It depends really on how you'll be using the database and whether
performance is your main issue or safeguards against failing disc(s).
There is a lot of info on the web re RAID, which RAID to use (0,1,5,10
etc). Raid-0 (striping) is known for good performance but if one disc
fails you loose it all. Then there's differences between read & write
performance to be considered.
If you can afford hardware RAID go for it... otherwise software RAID
could do just fine (but rebuilding your array after replacing a failed
disc will be a bit less trivial).
