We have customers where we had to do that, because of the applications
running on the server was competing for CPU, memory, disk I/O and
sockets. And, once they were separated, with Firebird on it's own
server, the problems disappeared. If speed is also required, then you
can setup a 1GB(or even better a fibre optic) network connection
between both servers.
