the gds versioning to which you refer is not required by the IBX components
at runtime. It's only checked by the designtime packages during IDE load.
IBX based applications will run fine against fbclient renamed to gds32.dll
without the tricky versioning. IBX design time packages can also be changed
(source) to ignore the version check during load.
