gbak's problem has always been that it tries to be smart but
has had trouble living up to expectations.

It is worth mentioning that FB v2 comes with nbackup. AFAICT
this new utility does what a backup and restore utility should
do. Backup what is there, and restore it again - without care
or regard for the internal integrity of the data (other than
being sure that it is not responsible for any loss of said
integrity). My hope is that nbackup will see the end of the
woes so many of us have experienced with gbak.
