Thank you for your reply, what I had wrong is that one terminal had old
gds32.dll version. I checked that all terminals now have the same version
(in precise 1.5.3.4870).

I understand that the remote connection is working on network layer even if
it is on the same machine. I cannot understand why the firebird client
raises this problem while other services (ftp, email service, file sharing
that running on the same machine) doesn't have any problem at all. I accept
and I agree that is something is happening on the network layer, how can I
find it? Where from may I start? I changed pc/server in past and I made the
same test with the same results.

Let me tell you what really is going on here, I test a retail application on
our server, I make test to see how the application and the sql server is
running under heavy duty, I am very happy for the speed progress I see. I
run 2 terminals and the server (total 3 sql clients) to make fake sale
registrations, the sql server is running ceaselessly ceaselessness! Cpu is
about 20% always and traffic about 3% (on 100mbps). This kind of work will
be not often on the end user usage (where he will have 6 terminals), but I
suppose the firebird shouldn't produce any problem even on this.

Something else, suppose that all applications (sql clients) are stuck while
they produce sales, they displaying the 'error reading data from the
connection' message or just are stuck, you can load again the application
from any terminal, and the application will communicate success with the
server, it will run success this fake sales registration looped procedure
and probably it will not hung as the previous application load. Now how the
network layer is working here? It use the same port, another threat, there
is connection.

Any suggestion is welcome, ANY.

Regards
Dennis

Hmm, hardly.  A network error is not a Firebird bug.  It might be
indicative of something buggish in the network interface but it only
indicates is that the network connection between the server and a
client has been lost.  You will see it, for example, when Joe User
uses the OFF switch to end his database session.  The server is
merely reporting "I had a connection to a client but now it's gone".

What would you expect it to show?  The server has no way to know WHY
a client disappeared.

You can scroll down for the responses...but there's nothing there of
much calorific value.

Find out what's happening on the network, with both man and
machine.  The most usual thing will be users crashing out.  If they
are not willing to behave properly, then you'll just keep getting
10054 errors from the network.  It doesn't hurt anything and,
eventually, the server will abandon the dead connection and clean up
anything it has left around.

If the server itself isn't crashing, and the users are well-behaved,
then look for the cause of the problem in your network configuration
(apparently idle IP addresses being hijacked by DHCP?) or faulty
hardware/cabling.

Originally, you said:

Do you understand that the "tcp ip connection" *IS* the network
layer?  Local connection doesn't use TCP/IP - communication between
server and client occurs in an emulated network layer (ipserver) in
shared inter-process communication space.  It's not affected by a
faulty network because it doesn't use the network.

Have you checked whether you have the wrong client library installed
on the problem clients?  I mean, checking the property sheet of
gds32.dll on each node and verifying that the build number is the
same as the build number of the server...?
