Followup...

I did a re-install of the OS and upgraded it to CentOS 4.2. Then
installed: FirebirdSS-1.5.2.4731-nptl.i686.rpm.

Saddly it still hung after serveral hours..

In frustration I began looking for hardware issues and noticed that of
a group of status lights on the machine (rack mount 2U) that are
normally green, one had gone out.. (not red, just not green).. This
was the system light.

Did a netstat and also noticed that a number of the connections on the
list were set at the "CLOSEWAIT" (see sample below) I have watched
another database machine and it had only ESTABLISHED entries..

I would assume that is significant.. ?? (anyone have thoughts on this..??)

Anyway I have all the databases off that machine and am pursuing a
possible hardware problem.
