Thanks Dan,
I got the libstdc++.so.5 for Centos from:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/2278927/com/compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386.rpm.html
... installed it and all works great.
