A shadow could be moderately useful perhaps, but its only purpose is to
prevent hard-disk failures. Now-a-days, a better solution is usually to
use RAID. But a shadow can't work over the network: it's a low-level and
synchrounous, so it would require that the shadow be always available.
If the shadow were ever unavailable for some reason, it would get out of
sync, and there would be no way to synchronize it again (at least, this
is my understanding of it, someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
So there are several replicators available, some commercial, some
non-commercial, each having obviously its strengths and weeknesses. It's
up to you to find one that suits your needs. As you can see from my sig,
I have one too that I'm starting to commercialize, so you could consider
that too if you're interested.
