You might have noticed the "" around the sentence. I was mimicking the
guy who tried to defend Oracle, as Helen already explained.

OT:
This proverb is used if anybody keeps denying an obvious fact just
because it doesn't fit into his/her world view. Just like our friend
keeps justifying Oracle's strange behaviour just to save his opinion
towards Oracle.
The saying comes from a poem by Christian Morgenstern that I found here
