I replicate - a box goes down, and the application user simply goes to
preferences and changes the server name - db alias remains unchanged.
There is also a plug-in RAID type solution if you want the extra expense
(another box is cheaper than a a fancy hardware solution and cheaper than a
tape drive backup solution too).
