One man's crazy is another man's clever. That's why we always hate our
predecessors. One application I'm familiar with uses an RDB$ prefix on
additional system-type tables that carry semantic information about the
application itself. RDB$SYSTEM_FLAG is the official and reliable
distinguishing characteristic.... though I've found tests for "RDB$" in
code in Firebird utilities.
