You are right, some of the SQL produced by the visual linker is
terrible. I have written a stored procedure to produce the correct
results for the report mentioned and now performance is improved to
about 20s max, with no 'locking up' of Firebird. However we have about
1000 reports I don't mind if 0.5% of our reports take 20s to run, I just
don't want them to freeze FB.
