It depends on what you're doing.

One way - obviously - is dropping and recreating all dependencies.

The other way, what DBW is doing, is fiddling around with system tables
and updating them directly. This has been carefully researched together with
Arno Brinkman to make sure it's ok.

The script that results from modifying a view will show you how it's done.
Getting that data is a different story ;-)
