The function is declared deprecated explicitly in FB2.0 ibase.h. I
can't remember exact reason for it, but it was something serious and
incurable - memory corruption or leak.

Probably, your ISQL executed the query using dialect 1. Double
quotes aroung literal constants are acceptable there.
