We don't see any problems across our sites, and it has been some time
since we actually had to use a backup to restore operation on a site.

And the instances of Database Corrupted Messages don't help the
perception. In may cases we find that it is due to power fails or simple
'operator error' ( I've just deleted everything in may database - how do
I get it back ;) )

Firebird will suffer from the same problems as any other database. If
you ensure a stable power supply and manage things properly - not that
Firebird needs much management - then you will not see any problems
