Plans? No. Informed discussions about it? Quite a lot.

Many of the connectivity interface layers support the Services API, which
is itself an application programming interface to to the command-line
utilities' code modules. Your best bet will be to ask on the relevant
lists for details of whether and how each of these interfaces implements
the Services API...
