It just occurred to me that there is one occasion in which localhost
<> <hostname>, and it is when the address is passed to a proxy server.
I have never done that with Firebird (and I don't even think it
directly supports that), but if it could be done then the effect would
be that localhost wouldn't work while <hostname> would.

Another possibility would be when the machine has more than one IP
address and Firebird is bound to just one of them.
