Short term or long term no problem at all, I've had customers that on
todays date have be runnning embedded fb on a thumbdrive for more than
a year without a single problem in a POS system, I guess that there
are plenty with people on this list that have it running for more than
that.

Just deploy your application with all the nessecary dependencies and
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/firebird/Firebird-1.5.2.4731_embed_win32.zip?download
that zip file contains everything you will need for running FB embedded.
