We bounced the server after changing the Restrict list to the actual
path, not the symbolic link. It works now. Thanks for the replies.
BTW, my previous wish was misguided, there's nothing wrong with putting
machine specific configuration information in a configuration file :-)
I still wish relative paths were useful in the table definition :-(

Yeah, that's what we just came up with. When we can bounce the server,
we'll try it.
I wish it would take the symbolic link, as it is I hate having to put a
fully qualified path in the table definition, a relative path would be
much cleaner (but then it ends up in the /tmp directory).

At first look, I would say, firebird resolves a dynamic link from
/opt/firebird to /opt/firebirdSS-1.5.1 and then checks the access
rights.
In fact, you denied access to /opt/firebirdSS-1.5.1.
Allow access to /opt/firebirdSS-1.5.1 as well and try again.
