Hibernate is quite a nice 'Persistence' layer for Java, but it does
depend on what you are using it with as to how useful it is. It does claim

It's not the only one, but discussions on pros and cons are probably
best started on the firebird-java list as it's the performance of
Jaybird that will determine how it actually works and where the
restrictions start to be imposed ;)
