In my bookmarks too.

I have often worried about the performance penalties of select count,
and have resorted to triggers to maintain a separate table however I
didn't know how to get around what is effectively a table lock.

Brilliant compromise!

Is there a scheduler planned for FB, or maintaining this another job
for an isql script in the windows scheduler or service sitting on the
server?
