what I forget to say is that I added user firebird to group juser
/home/juser is group writeable
originally /home/user was user owner juser group owner juser.
as the firebird user was in juser group I thought it had write
permission for user firebird.

anyway,I changed /home/juser to be user owner juser and group owner
firebird and tried again. This time it worked, but is this a good
solution or the only solution?
