I setup the alias and again it connects fine locally on the linux box,
but gives the sames error from the windows box.

It is definitely the firebird server listening on port 3050 because if
I set the firebird xinetd.conf file to 'disable = yes', run
killall -HUP xinetd and do netstat again nothing is listening.
Changing it back to 'disable = no' and restarting xinetd shows the
port being listened on again.
