Olivier,
My additional guess is that the fix requires a change to the physical
organization of the index, which is why it was not back ported to 1.5.
We've been very careful not to change the stored format of data - or
indexes - before Version 2. That means you'll find the same bug in
versions of InterBase prior to 6.5 - and possibly afterward...
