If maximum performance is the goal I would go for RAID 0, if money is
not a problem then I'd go for RAID 1+0

RAM is always good.

Could you tell us more detail about the complex calc and aditional queries ?

Did you tried a multi-threaded application to insert this records ?

The application could run from the same machine and uses a local
connection ?
