30 seconds is a long time. This sounds more like a Windows issue (was
that called system restore or something, that XP creates a copy when
accessing a .gdb file) or a virus scanner issue. If it is loading of
metadata as you say, then the most important information will be what
component set do you use. Probably that also means that this question
should be posted to another list.
