For Win9x, you still have that limitation, because of the file system.
On Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, the limit exists if FAT32 is used for the
file system, but to avoid that limitation, simply use NTFS. And, for
Linux, the only time that you would have that limitation would be with
a version that doesn't support the 64-bit file I/O, which apparently
would be a few versions back, but I would suggest to check the server

So, currently, the limitations are only related to the file system
limitations, and not Firebird.
