What are the size of the images, and total size of database.
What about backup - how often, how long does it take?

We use a system where images are stored as files, yearly increase is
(probably less than) 150.000. Like your system, images (once stored) are
just retrieved.
In another situation I store images in a database, and as you say, it's
very convenient.
