This is a non-complicated problem, twisted by an ambiguous error message.
Your server will run fine with this problem. After no help from the list and
about a day of debugging, it came down to this... the machine couldn't reverse
DNS itself. The only thing we had in /etc/hosts was:
127.0.0.1 localhost
After adding:
192.168.1.200 MrDatabaseServer
it all went away.
