I use PostGIS as well as ArcSDE with MSSQL, Oracle 8i with Spatial
Extensions, and Informix with the Spatial Datablade. Support like PostGIS
is sufficient. I actually started to port PostGIS to IB6 a long time ago
but didn't get very far before other projects paying the bills got in the
way.
I support clients in the GIS arena, most use ESRI products and utilize
ArcSDE or the Personal Geodatabase (MS-Access via Jet.) Considering that
ESRI is very interested in the PostGIS way of things (see the 2004
pre-conference Q&A FAQ) replicating PostGIS would probably be the most
useful. Also, since the code is OSS, complete reproduction would not be
necessary.
Again for me AND my clients, a PostGIS like layer would be great.
