Problem is solved. I was logged in through Remote Desktop Connection as the
local administrator to the server. Apparently that is not the same as
physically standing in front of the box and logging in as local
administrator. Is this what you would expect?
I reinstalled from inside the server room, and things seem to be working
now.

All,
I've installed FB 1.5.1 Superserver on a Windows 2000 machine. The install
does not report any errors, but did not start the service as expected. The
first error in the Application Event Log is this:
-begin error-
The description for Event ID ( 251 ) in Source (
FirebirdGuardianDefaultInstance ) cannot be found. The local computer may
not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to
display
messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the
event: Server Started: Guardian starting: C:\Program
Files\Firebird\Firebird_1_5\bin\fbserver.exey.
-end error-
I tried to start it manually by double clicking the fbguardian.exe and got
the second errors:
-begin error-
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source (
FirebirdGuardianDefaultInstance ) cannot be found. The local computer may
not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to
display
messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the
event: FirebirdGuardianDefaultInstance error: 1063,
StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed.
-end error-
Has anyone experience this?
Thanks,
Kyle
