I have had my box stall on boot up with Firebird, but the reason wasn't what
I expected. When I had the box set to run on my LAN (it's a 1U rack mounted
box that will be moved to a colo facility), all was well. Yes, it shows
'Firebird starting...' on startup of Linux, then about 3 seconds later
finishes and continues. All is well.

Before I was going to move the box to my colo facility, I had to change the
network IP address, etc. for this. Then as a precaution, I restarted the
box. When it got to the 'Firebird starting...' it hung up. Sat there for
ages. After about 10 minutes I rebooted the box again. Same thing
happened. It then dawned on me that the problem is the IP addressing. I
changed the IP addressing back to the LAN, and now it started just fine.

So if you have a network IP addressing problem with your box, Firebird
probably won't start. Why this is the case, I have no idea. But it won't.
It will just sit there. The fact that eventually it does complete the
bootup is probably that it can find some network eventually and then works.
Maybe you have a router problem or something like that?
