Oh boy that is do helpful, you might want to try using 1.5.1 PreRelease and see if
it cures the problem.... Note that this is a pre-release and is for testing purposes
only.

Firebird 1.5.1 RC 2 SS NPTL Builds
Where NPTL =
Native Posix Threads Library. Used in RH9, Fedora, and possibly
some other Linux distributions. These builds provide better thread
support (M:N, futex, etc.), and are designed to be fully backwards
compatible with the old libpthread library. Unfortunately, regardless
of what the Linux distributors said, it was not OK - FB1.5, built
without NPTL support, did crash sporadically on NPTL-enabled systems.
These new builds with full NPTL support appear to work correctly.
