Not sure what you mean by auto-recovery.
There is gfix, but this is run manually.
As for knowing when a DB is corrupt, error messages will certainly appear if
things get bad.
Others probably will have more to say about the messages.
Just one thing that we have found useful... We now do a daily backup AND
restore that backup to an alternative db just to make real sure the backup
was successful... It is possible (as we found out) to have a backup that
looks like it is good (that is, it backed up without error) but when you
come to restore it, it fails to fully restore... Usually it is a problem
with indexes... But when you want to restore a DB in a hurry, it is best to
go from a backup that you know will restore without having to muck around
with restoring it with various options.
Also... As a side note, we have found Firebird to be very reliable, the one
time mentioned above when we did need to restore was when the DB got
corrupted at about the same time the server ran out disk space...
