I use SciTE. It's only an editor, but it's great. It's ultra fast, has
good syntax highlighting.

I also used jEdit before. It has some good features like working
directly with files on ftp server. Only thing I dislike is that it is
written in Java, so it's slow at startup.

Try SciTE, you won't regret it.
