called Hirt and Carter - a very big repro house here in South Africa.
This program stored anything - video, sound, pictures in all sorts of
formats, documents in all sorts of formats - and allowed the user all sorts
of ways of retrieving the data, or viewing the data associated with a
specific project, media campaign, product, or client.
I used Delphi 5 and IB 6 to do it, without zipping or compressing anything
up, and using OLE containers to view whatever it was being stored.
I wrote it about 3 years ago - AFAIK, they are still happily using it.
Before anyone thinks this was rocket science stuff, let me hasten to assure
everyone that the code that did the storage wasn't mine - it was something
I had found on a Delphi web site somewhere, and adapted as required.
I don't think adapting it to use something other than OLE containers would
be very difficult. I also cannot see that it would be more difficult in
Firebird than it was in Interbase.
I don't have the code around anymore - they paid for the source as well as
the application - but I think I have the Delphi example code that I used
lying around somewhere. Trust me, it's not difficult.
Regards
Tim
