Johannes, Svein, All,
For my requirements, it's OK that Firebird stores *values* and
the application layer is responsible for the formatting
the *display* of these values.
It's a similiar discussion as the moderately often
heard need to have more Date/Time formats. Firebird
store date values, you do the formatting.
It's a minor inconvenience, that generic tools, ISQL
or the several GUI toolsets, wouldn't do the smart
formatting your app can provide.
Also, if the can is opened, it wouldn't stop with zerofill.
Taking the number 1234, there may be needs
to display it as:
001234
1,234
1.234
4D2
04D2
etc...
