problem solved. Had different versions of "gds32.dll" on different
machines. Version 4.xx could - of course - not work, because there was
nothing like a type "date" in old Interbase-versions.

I did not know that for using Firebird I will also need an actual
gds32.dll on client-machine. Such hint should come with installation
of ODBC-driver.

Anyway, problem solved.
