Think of it the opposite way around (the "contra-desktop" way). Use
aliases in your applications to "soft-code" the locations of the databases
and use aliases.conf to link the soft path with the hard path. With
TCP/IP, it allows platform interoperability - your client apps don't have
to care what platform the server is running on.
