Because one developer thought that using Firebird was inconvenient on
networks with NFS mounted file systems. At the time there was CONSIDERABLE
discussion that the change would lead to corruption and tears before
bedtime. The developer said that most Firebird users were intelligent
enough to realize that having two servers accessing a single file without
any coordination of their activities would be a disaster. And so it
would. And so it was.
