If you want to have Firebird or Guardian running as an application, you
can't control it from the Control Panel applet.

Do as follows:

1. Stop the service from the cpl and set up the fields for Run
as...application and "manually". (If you set it up for "automatically" you
won't be able to shut it down manually).
2. Go to the \bin directory and create a shortcut for fbguard.exe.
3. Move the shortcut to the desktop, start menu or wherever you want it.
4. Open the property sheet of the short cut and edit the "Start in" field
so it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files\Firebird\Firebird_1_5\bin\fbguard.exe" -a
5. Click "Apply" and "OK".
6. Click the shortcut.

Guardian will start up as an application and place its icon in the system
tray. It automatically starts up the server.

To stop the server, right click on the tray icon and select "Shutdown".

That's it.
