This small technical article was created in order to give a basic
introduction on how to use FireBird with Fenix. With Fenix you can choose
two different ways of accessing a FireBird database:
a) Using FireBird with the ODBC Provider
b) Using FireBird with the "native" .NET Provider.
Fenix comes with 1 example using each technique (odbc and .NET Provider).
Please look under Examples Provided for more details. FireBird using the
ODBC Provider.
There is nothing special to configure inside Fenix (except from the fact of
clicking the ODBC button inside classes and providers) to use FireBird
except for the Connection String.
FireBird using .NET Provider Current Version of .NET
Provider : 1.6 Beta 1
FileName : FirebirdNETProvider1.6-Beta1-NET1.1.exe
First you need to download and install the file mention before, manually
copy the driver(provider) into your .\bin directory and then configure your
Fenix application with the Following Settings :
Configuration of Classes and Providers
Please note that "Use Custom (not listed) Provider is checked and that the
value of Compiler Directive is: /r:.\bin\FirebirdSql.Data.Firebird.dll
Important: That DLL must also be manually located into your APP .\bin
directory. After configuring the Classes and Providers you will need to
configure the Connection String.
Please notice that the connection string for .NET Provider is not the same
as for ODBC.
FireBird: Connection String Using ODBC Provider Connection String using DSN
DSN=Fenix_FireBird
DSN-Less (*)
DRIVER=Firebird/InterBase(r)
driver;UID=sysdba;PWD=masterkey;DBNAME=localhost:c:\Program
Files\Firebird\Firebird_1_5\examples\EMPLOYEE.FDB;
(*) Means that a DataSource it's not required. Using .NET Provider
User=sysdba;Password=masterkey;Database=localhost:c:\Program
Files\Firebird\Firebird_1_5\examples\EMPLOYEE.FDB;
This is only an example, but for a complete list of supported values and
options please refer to the Help file installed with the .NET Provider
installation program. ( "C:\Program
Files\FirebirdNETProvider1.6\FirebirdNETProviderSDK.chm" )
