RESOLUTION
Sorry for the self-referencing reply, but it seemed to be the best
way to post this resolution.
My problem related to a vagary of the Firebird 1.5 RC9 install on MS
Windows. This install places a gds32.dll file in the WINSYS
directory, though only if there isn't already one there with the
same or newer version number. The version number installed is
6.3.0.4288. (Note: my app uses the gds32.dll file and not
fbclient.dll)
When I installed FB 1.5 RC9, it did NOT install the gds32.dll file
because one with the same version number already existed in my
WINSYS directory. I do not know how it got there, I can only assume
from a different FB install?
In any case, the gds32.dll file that was already on my system turned
out to be the wrong one. Upon checking it, the version number was
right but the creation date was wrong (mine had a creation date of 1
Sep 2003).
I uninstalled FB, deleted the gds32.dll file and then re-installed
FB. I checked my file and the new gds32.dll file had a creation date
of todays date.
My app now works fine. The remaining worry is - how did that wierd
gds32.dll file get in my winsys directory? And what a wierd creation
date too!
Hope this proves to be of help to someone.
