Thanks for all of the info. It's something I've added to my
developers chest here and I know I'll find useful.

I readily admit that I think the transaction control in Interbase /
Firebird is by far and away it's worst feature. It's much too
complicated and would do well, IMO, to revert to a more usual
transaction setup as used by other major DB vendors.

That aside, it wasn't transactions that were my problem here. I've
added a post as a closer here so that it may help anyone else
suffering from the same problem.
