You can look at the Roadmap at the Firebird site
(http://firebird.sourceforge.net and click through to Development>Database
Engine) and you can also read some of Alex Peshkoff's reports there.

However, in the broader scheme of things (Firebird 2 + Vulcan in parallel
development threads until Firebird 3) the full security picture is still in
evolution. The archives of the firebird-devel and firebird-architect lists
will reveal more detail about the architectural goals.
