How did you connect..??
Here is the syntax.

isql
SQL> CONNECT 'c:\databases\firebird\x.fdb'
CON> USER 'SYSDBA' PASSWORD 'masterkey';

You get a message

"CON> USER 'SYSDBA' PASSWORD 'masterkey'; Database:
'c:\databases\firebird\x.FDB', User: SYSDBA"
