At first look it seems to be a network configuration problem.

For the example:

machine name (the server) = my-server
machine ip address = 192.168.1.1

Try executing the ping command to determine if your machine can see your
server.
i.e. = ping my-server or
ping 192.168.1.1

If the command result success then try to use the ip address instead of the
machine name.
If not, then your network configuration has some mistake.

I have an application made with Java using Jaybird 1.5.2 and Firebird
1.5, I have 3 machines, 2 of them with win98, and the other with winxp
which has FB 1.5 running, the problem is when may application tries to
conect from the win98 machines I get this message (as an exception
generated):
Unable to complete network request to "my-server";

I would appreciate any help.
