The "best" (of a bad bunch) of descriptions of the various transaction
configurations and their different effects to be found in the Borl manuals
is in the EmbeddedSQL guide (EmbedSQL.pdf). Though a lot of the SQL stuff
in this volume doesn't fit with dynamic SQL, there's a lot of meat in there
that isn't documented elsewhere. The quickest way to find a downloadable
copy is to google the file name.

You might like also to download the TI sheets on the subject of
transactions from www.ibobjects.com/TechInfo.html. Or read Part Six of The
Firebird Book, "Transactions".
