There's been some (semi-recent) discussion of this on firebird-architect. The problem is that
metadata updates end up changing the "rules of the game", whereas transactions are all about making
sure concurrent connections are all playing by the rules -- the same rules. Before anything can be
done, I'd say they need to work out all the logical consequences of such things ... You can search
the archive to see how it's progressing: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/firebird-architect/ (I think
there's a mirror somewhere?)
